mamp

An app for creating a local server environment

mamp screenThe name of the app MAMP is an abbreviation from four names: Mac, Apache, MySQL, PHP. It will only take you a few clicks to install MySQL, PHP, and Apache for your OS X! Within a few seconds, an environment of a local server will be installed on your OS X running device, be that iMac or PowerBook. MAMP is available for download free of charge, just like the similar functioning packages from the world of Linux and Windows.

Some traits of MAMP are similar to the distribution of Linux: as far as the app comes as a combined pack of free popular software, it is available for all users under no charge. MAMP app is released under the General Public License GNU; thus, its distribution is free within the license’ boundaries. Remember: some software included into the pack is released under a different kind of license. In the case of these, the corresponding licenses are applied.

Initially, MAMP app was created as an environment of PHP development for Mac; for this reason, the app shouldn’t be used as a live Internet Webserver. For this purpose, it is recommended to use an OS X server with the Linux or Apache server provided.
